Your support will empower Children with Education. Please help us building Children’s Libraries in Rural Himalayas
Amrita-Seattle’s mission is to empower children with education. In 2017, we would build libraries in the Himalayan villages to increase literacy levels among rural children.
We have identified two regions: Leh-Ladakh in India and Tashigaon, a remote Sherpa Village in Nepal.
At these sites, Amrita-Seattle’s volunteers and field coordinators will work in tandem with the local people in the actual construction, interior decoration, mural painting, furnishing, and shelving of the library.
We will carry books and study material from the U.S. and local markets for the library. Once the library is established, Amrita-Seattle’s Reading Program will take action. Volunteers will be training the teachers to implement and run different daily reading activities, such as, story-telling,
puppetry, drawing, and role plays, to teach the students daily values,
such as, self-confidence, respect, harmony, and kindness towards each
In addition, the libraries will hold weekly meetings for a Reading Club to ignite the young minds to become voracious readers!

Suggested Donation:

Amrita-Seattle has identified schools in two (out of thousands) of the remote islands villages within the dense Sunderbaans Forest: Tipligheri and Jamespur, where daily after-school tutorials and a meal programs are run by Amrita-Seattle for the last three years.

Most students in these schools are either orphans or have only single parent due to frequent tigerattacks. Poverty runs rampant in these villages for lack of farmland, resources, and earning members. Needless to say that education isthe key weapon forthese childrenin order to break out from their daily struggle.

With your help, Amrita-Seattle aims to set-up a library in each of these two school campuses to enhance the children’s reading level and inspire them to read and love books.

Online sale of tickets for this event is closed. Tickets will be available at the venue.

Amrita-Seattle is dedicated to providing education, healthcare, and clean water in under privileged communities in rural India. In the upcoming year 2017, Amrita-Seattle aims to accomplish several major milestones under its education and healthcare program, respectively. Rythms 2017 is an effort to accomplish one of the milestones described below.

Medical Camp in the Remote Himalayan Villages – Summer 2017

Amrita-Seattle is organizing its second medical camp in one of the most remote regions of the Himalayas – Zanskar Valley, to provide medical and humanitarian aid to those who live in these isolated mountain villages. Sealed off by over 6000m high mountains, these remote villages remain practically isolated from the rest of the world. Medical aid is at a minimum to non-existent in this region. Our medical camp will be held for 16 days with the help of traditional medicine doctors from Ladakh Nuns Association and allopath medical doctors from India and US. We will be targeting a total of 15 villages, where two thirds of them have no road access, in which cases we will load our supplies on horses and mules, and then trek in/out of the village, like the local people do. Your support will provide incredible service to the nomadic children of Ladakh India.
