Your support will empower Children with Education. Please help us building Children’s Libraries in Rural Himalayas
Amrita-Seattle’s mission is to empower children with education. In 2017, we would build libraries in the Himalayan villages to increase literacy levels among rural children.
We have identified two regions: Leh-Ladakh in India and Tashigaon, a remote Sherpa Village in Nepal.
At these sites, Amrita-Seattle’s volunteers and field coordinators will work in tandem with the local people in the actual construction, interior decoration, mural painting, furnishing, and shelving of the library.
We will carry books and study material from the U.S. and local markets for the library. Once the library is established, Amrita-Seattle’s Reading Program will take action. Volunteers will be training the teachers to implement and run different daily reading activities, such as, story-telling,
puppetry, drawing, and role plays, to teach the students daily values,
such as, self-confidence, respect, harmony, and kindness towards each
In addition, the libraries will hold weekly meetings for a Reading Club to ignite the young minds to become voracious readers!
